The Nightcliff Football Club is proud to appoint Ed Smelt MLA as Club Patron, recognising their valued support and connection to our Club. We are honoured to have a Patron who champions our values, celebrates our people, and helps promote the spirit and success of Nightcliff Football Club within the wider community.


Purpose of the Role

The Club Patron serves as the honorary figurehead of the Nightcliff Football Club, upholding and promoting the Club’s values, traditions, and reputation. The Patron provides visible support to the Club and acts as an ambassador within the community, fostering pride, recognition, and connection among players, volunteers, members, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

The Club Patron will:

  • Represent the Club at significant events, including official functions, presentations, and key Club milestones.

  • Promote the Club within the broader community by enhancing its profile and strengthening relationships with stakeholders, sponsors, and supporters.

  • Recognise Contributions by acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of volunteers, players, officials, and life members.

  • Advocate for the Club’s Interests by supporting initiatives that enhance the Club’s sustainability, growth, and community impact.

  • Provide Guidance to the Committee when requested, offering insight, experience, and support in a non-governance capacity.

  • Uphold Club Values and Traditions by championing the history, culture, and spirit of the Nightcliff Football Club.

Appointment

  • The Club Patron is appointed by resolution of the members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

  • The term of appointment may be determined by the Club or remain at the discretion of the membership.

Nature of the Role

  • The role of Club Patron is honorary and ceremonial in nature.

  • The Patron does not hold executive or voting responsibilities within the Committee unless separately appointed to such a position.

  • The level of involvement is flexible and may vary depending on the Patron’s availability and the Club’s needs.

Selection Criteria

The ideal Patron will:

  • Be a respected member of the community or have a strong connection to the Club

  • Demonstrate a commitment to community sport and development

  • Have the ability to positively influence and advocate for the Club

  • Embody the values and spirit of the Nightcliff Football Club
